City Elections

Mayor and City Council are elected for two three-year terms.  The election for the City of Freeport is held every three years on the first Saturday in May.  All agendas and minutes are publicly posted online.  The next municipal election will be held on May 2, 2026.

 

November 4, 2025, Special Election

The City of Freeport Special Election will be held on November 4, 2025,
for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the City of Freeport a proposition providing for or against the adoption of the Fire Fighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service.

May 2, 2026, General Election

The next City of Freeport General Election will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026,
for Council Member Ward A and Council Member Ward C.

Eligibility Requirements for Office

  • Must be a registered voter.
  • Must be a resident citizen of the City of Freeport for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to:
     Filing an application to be placed on the official ballot.
    Filing proof of qualifications as required by law.
  • For council members other than the Mayor:
    Must also be a resident of the ward     they seek to represent for at least 6 consecutive months prior to applying.

May 2, 2026, Special Election

The next City of Freeport Special Election will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
